An add-on set with a miniature of the Soviet DShK heavy machine gun of 12.7 mm caliber in 1:35 scale. It is neither a kit nor a model of a vehicle — the weapon is fitted to the turret and ring mounts of vehicle models, or used on its own in a diorama. In injection-molded kits the DShK tends to be molded in simplified form, with a parting line across the barrel and a solid muzzle; a separate accessory allows a finer rendering of the cooling ribs, the sights and the feed mechanism. The maker is the Spanish firm AMMO of Mig Jimenez.
The DShK is a large-caliber machine gun of 12.7 mm caliber with an air-cooled barrel fitted with ribbing and with a characteristic muzzle brake. Its recognition feature is a drum feed on the earlier form and a flat feed on the later one. The weapon was fitted to tripod and wheeled mounts and as armament on the commander's cupolas of armored vehicles; because of that it appears on a wide spectrum of vehicles and is a very common modeling accessory.
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with dish soap so that the mold release agent is removed. Cut the casting blocks off with a sharp cutter or a fine saw; the ribbed barrel and the thin sights break off easily, so avoid nippers. They are glued with superglue, that is cyanoacrylate, and a primer goes on before painting. Paint the metal parts in a dark steel shade, bring out the edges and the surfaces exposed to wear with graphite or a metal pigment and put a dark wash into the recesses between the ribs — the ribbing of the barrel is exactly the detail that works hardest on a finished weapon.
