Injection-molded plastic kit from Hobby Boss in 1:35 scale. The subject is the German Panther medium tank in the Ausf.A version, designated Sd.Kfz.171, in the form with Zimmerit applied. The box holds plastic parts for the hull, the turret and the running gear, to be assembled and painted; the Zimmerit protective paste is as a rule molded directly into the parts.
The Panther was one of the most important German medium tanks of the Second World War. It combined a powerful gun, good armor protection with sloped plates and respectable mobility. The Ausf.A was one of the production variants. Zimmerit was an anti-magnetic paste applied to the armor, meant to prevent magnetic mines from sticking.
Start with the running gear and the lower hull. Bring out the texture of the Zimmerit with careful painting and a wash that emphasizes the ribbing. Spray the vehicle with an airbrush; the late-war German camouflage schemes are typical. Finish with filters, a wash and pigments for dust and mud on the running gear.
