A set of photo-etched metal parts replacing the plastic grilles and protective screens over the engine compartment of the German Panther medium tank in the Ausf. D version. Photo-etched metal keeps the real thickness of the sheet and the transparency of the mesh, so once fitted you can see the space of the engine bay beneath them, which never works with heavy plastic parts. The package contains the photo-etched parts and instructions. It is not a model of a tank but a detail accessory for a plastic kit in 1:35 scale.
The Panther Ausf. D was the first production version of the German PzKpfw V medium tank, in service from 1943. The vehicle had sharply sloped hull armor, a long 75 mm gun and a large rear deck with four openings for the cooling fans and the intake grilles. It is exactly the upper surface of the engine compartment that is one of the most studied areas of a finished model, which is why a photo-etched replacement pays off.
Cut the plastic grilles out carefully, clear the openings beneath them and level the surface. Separate the photo-etched parts with a scalpel on a hard surface and bend them in a bending tool or between two blades. Glue with super glue (cyanoacrylate) onto degreased metal. Always give the metal a primer before painting. With German schemes the structure of the grilles comes out well after a dark wash and fine dust pigments.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. It is a detail accessory for a plastic kit, not a model in its own right. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
