Masking set for the Soviet ISU-122S and ISU-152 heavy self-propelled guns in 1:35 scale. The box holds two sets of films for the national insignia and the tactical markings of the superstructure.
Responsibility details are not available.
The self-propelled guns of the ISU series were built on the chassis of the IS heavy tank and differed above all in their gun: one carried a long 122 mm piece, the other a short 152 mm howitzer. Both were built on one box-shaped superstructure with sloping walls and both served to destroy fortifications, buildings and heavy vehicles at short range. The soldiers had a nickname for them that hinted at what is left of a house after a single hit.
This item is interesting precisely for what is not in it. While sets for a number of other tracked vehicles contain circular films for the tires, here there are only insignia. The road wheels of vehicles derived from the IS heavy tank were all-steel, with the suspension housed inside the disc, so there is no rubber ring on them that would have to be set apart in a darker color. There would be nothing to mask.
An insignia sprayed through film has a great advantage on the vertical wall of the superstructure: it does not follow a weld or cast unevenness and does not lift on the edge of the armor, where a decal often cracks. The procedure is straightforward: apply the mask to a dry base, overspray with a light coat and lift the film before it has fully hardened. Any remaining edges can be lightly cleaned up with a damp cloth once dry.
