1:35 Italian Truck - 90/53 Ammunition Carrier

The real subject

The Italian 90/53 gun was a heavy anti-aircraft gun whose designation reads as a caliber of 90 mm and a barrel length of 53 calibers. A weapon of that size consumes a great many heavy rounds, so it was accompanied by a truck that carried the ammunition and kept the crew supplied at the firing position. It is exactly such an ammunition carrier that this kit captures.

What the model offers

The model is in 1:35 scale, that is, the same size as the usual tank and figure kits, and it can therefore easily be set into a diorama with an artillery position. A truck is a rewarding subject in its own right too: it has a prominent cab, a load bed and a load, on which wear, dust and the life of the crew can be shown better than on smooth armor.

Building and painting tips

Dry-fit the parts before gluing; on trucks the frame and suspension tend to be sensitive about standing level on all the wheels. It pays to paint the cab and the load bed separately while they are still accessible. The load will benefit from a wash and a dry brush, so that the individual crates and cartridge cases are told apart.
