A printed sheet for builders of dioramas in 1:35 scale. It holds poster motifs intended for the walls, pasting surfaces and display frames of an urban scene. It is a paper accessory for a diorama – not a kit and not a waterslide decal. Posters are one of the most effective props in miniature altogether: bare render looks sterile, while pasted-up posters turn it into an inhabited place at once.
A poster is glued flat, and that is exactly where paper most often lets you down – it whitens at the edge or lifts in a corner. Proceed by cutting the motif out with a scalpel with a minimal margin, toning the edge lightly with paint around the perimeter and gluing with a matte PVA glue applied to the undercoat, not to the paper. On rough render dampen the paper first, press it down with a brush and let it follow the texture of the undercoat – that creates the impression that the poster really is lying on the wall. Where the pasted poster is meant to look older, tear a corner and peel it away.
Fresh printing is always a little more saturated than reality. Knock the color back with a very thinned wash in a gray-brown tone, create the transitions with a dry brush and finally add dust with pigment at the foot of the wall. Seal the whole area with matte clear coat, otherwise the paper will stay glossier than the surrounding materials and will stand out in a photograph of the scene. With layered pasted posters it pays to glue several motifs over one another with a small offset.
