Mantis Ausf. B — leichter Aufklärer (Battle Version) is a kit of a fictional light reconnaissance machine in 1:35 scale from the author science fiction range Front46, in the battle form. It is not real military equipment.
Responsibility details are not available.
The kit from the manufacturer MAiM belongs to its author range Front46, that is, to an invented science fiction world with machines carrying German-sounding designations. In that fiction Mantis Ausf. B is listed as a light reconnaissance machine, which the German leichter Aufklärer in the name expresses; the addition in brackets sets it apart as the battle form. The manufacturer also offers other versions and differently designated variants under the name Mantis, so when ordering, check that you are taking this one. Check the number of parts, the material, the contents of the package and the dimensions of the finished model against the illustration on the packaging.
The subject is fictional. The machines of the Front46 range never existed, and their designations including the German abbreviations are part of the author design rather than a reference to real equipment. The design conception follows the logic of a light reconnaissance asset, in which mobility and a field of view decide more than armor. For a builder there is a pleasant freedom in that: there are no period photographs and no binding schemes, so the colors, the markings and the overall feel of the model are entirely in your hands.
First find out what the parts are made of and choose the glue accordingly — super glue on resin, ordinary modeling cement on injection-molded plastic. Wash resin parts free of mold release agent, cut off the casting blocks and sand with respiratory protection. Assemble and paint the running gear group, the joints and everything that will be inaccessible once the body is closed beforehand. Bring the large areas to life with modulation of the base shade, so that the model does not look flat; only then come a wash in the recesses, picking out the rivets and the edges, rubbing on the exposed places and finally pigments from the bottom upward. With a battle form, restraint is called for — traces of hits and damage look convincing only when they match the logic of the structure and are not scattered at random.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
