The set of shades for the underside of a machine is noticeably lighter than the one for the upper surfaces, and here too a fine texture of fabric accompanies the pattern. It is printed digitally on a clear base in which the white component is missing, and that is why the final brightness is fine-tuned by the underpainting.
An observer on the ground saw the aircraft against the sky, and that is why the lower sides were kept in bluish, pink and light green tones. The difference between the two sets was so pronounced that the sheets are still issued separately to this day, and to confuse them means spoiling the overall impression of a model. On the leading edges and in places where the fabric broke over a rib, the color from the opposite side also often showed through, which is a detail that will give a build believability.
First cover the lower sides, only then the upper ones. Hide the seams under strips of the same material, which imitate the tapes over the ribs. Once dry, go over the surfaces with a semi-matte coat, so that the difference in sheen between the film and the finish is lost. While working, rest the wing on a soft cloth, so that a freshly laid surface is not marked.
