A resin figure in 1:35 scale from the Polish maker Mantis Miniatures. It is supplied as an unpainted casting that has to be cleaned up, assembled and painted. The figure represents a soldier of the Polish armed forces in the gear of a wheeled armored personnel carrier crew and is designed to complete a model of the vehicle or a diorama scene. It is not a kit of a vehicle or a finished collector's figure.
Resin figures have sharper modeling than injection plastic: the folds of the uniform, the straps, the pockets and the small items of gear are all legible, which shows above all once a wash and a dry brush have been applied. The pose of the figure is worked out for a particular situation at the vehicle, so the figure gives a scene scale and action: the carrier on its own looks static, and with a figure it becomes a tableau. The uniform and gear match the present-day Polish army, so the set suits models of modern equipment.
First wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water to remove the mold release residue, otherwise the paint holds badly. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a knife; never break them off. Sand wet and with respiratory protection, as resin dust does not belong in the lungs. It is glued solely with cyanoacrylate, as cement for plastic has no effect on resin. Lay on a thin primer before painting and only then the paints. Build the camouflage pattern of the uniform from the base shade through the patches to a final highlight on the edges; the face and hands come out best with the layering of glazes. A final wash in the folds and a fine dry brush bring out the modeling.
The figure is supplied as an unassembled and unpainted resin casting. Glue, paints and a model of the vehicle are not included in the package.
