This plastic kit from Freedom Model Kits captures, in 1:35 scale, a wheeled gun system built on the Taiwanese eight-wheeled chassis and armed with a 105 mm gun. It is the most heavily armed version of the whole family: instead of a weapon station or a turret with an autocannon it carries a turret with a gun that serves for direct fire support.
Wheeled gun systems came about as a lighter and faster complement to tracked tanks. On a common eight-wheeled chassis they make it possible to bring gun fire to bear in the direct role where tracked equipment arrives slowly, and their main advantage is moving under their own power. The Taiwanese variant with the 105 mm gun, which goes by the Black Bear nickname, is based on the same hull as the transport and fighting versions of the family, but it differs in the turret, the mounting of the barrel and the distribution of weight.
The turret with its long gun calls for careful matching of the two halves of the barrel; sand the joint and polish it if needed, so that it does not stand out once painted. Drill the muzzle out with a fine drill. It is practical to leave the hull divided into the lower and upper part as long as possible, as you then get to the details of the chassis more easily. When painting, separate the turret from the hull in shade only very slightly, so that the model looks of one piece, and concentrate the weathering on the bottom of the hull, the wheels and the area around the muzzle.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
