Takom 1:35 SA-N-7 Gadfly and SA-N-12 Grizzly SAM 2 in 1 is a plastic kit of shipboard launchers for surface-to-air guided missiles in 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
This kit from Takom captures the launchers of shipboard surface-to-air missile systems that carry the NATO code names Gadfly and Grizzly. It is therefore not a model of a ship or of a vehicle, but a standalone weapon installation, which in the large 1:35 scale builds into a striking display-case piece or the centerpiece of a scene. The 2 in 1 in the name refers to two versions of the launcher; please check the exact contents of the package and the range of parts against the enclosed instructions, as it is not stated here. It is an injection-molded plastic kit meant to be assembled and painted.
SA-N-7 and SA-N-12 are the NATO codes for the shipboard variants of Soviet and later Russian medium-range surface-to-air missile systems. They are single-arm launchers installed on the decks of surface ships, connected to a missile magazine below deck and to a radar fire control system. The launcher traverses in azimuth and elevates, and serves to defend the ship and its surroundings against air targets. The newer system is a modernization of the older one while keeping the same concept of the launcher arm.
The installation is made up of large smooth surfaces, so it pays to sand the mold parting lines and the joints carefully before painting. Apply a primer, which will even the surface out and reveal small scratches. Assemble the moving parts so that they stay able to turn, if you want to present the model in various positions. Naval equipment tends to be heavily worn by salt and weather, so fine washes into the engraved lines, dot filters and restrained traces of corrosion work well.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
