An accessory for modelers, not a kit of the vehicle. The set replaces the cooling fan cover on the engine deck with a part cast in resin with crisper shapes than an injection mold allows. The name marks the version as mixed, that is a variant different from the early and the late type. The accessory is supplied by the SBS Model brand.
Sd.Kfz. 171 is the service designation of the German Panther medium tank of the Second World War. The engine deck of the type went through a number of modifications during production, and on vehicles repaired in field workshops a combination of features from different production periods on one machine was not unusual. That is exactly why accessories for this area are offered in several variants. Which version a particular vehicle carried can be established reliably only from a period photograph of that machine or from a specialist publication on the type.
First wash the resin parts in warm water with detergent, otherwise mold release agent residue will prevent the primer and the glue from adhering. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine-toothed saw, and do not snap them off. Sand the remains down with respiratory protection: resin dust must not be inhaled, and wet sanding is the safest. It is glued with cyanoacrylate; polystyrene cement has no effect on resin. Apply a primer before painting. Remove the original plastic cover from the model and level the surface under the new part.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and is not a model in its own right. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package. Please check the fit with your kit before buying.
