ELEFANT 1:35 side skirts over the running gear for the Tiger I of very early production is a photo-etched set that replaces thick-walled plastic parts with thin metal sheet.
Responsibility details are not available.
A photo-etched set in 1:35 scale intended for a model of the Tiger I heavy tank in its very early production form. It is not a kit but an accessory: it replaces the sheet-metal covers over the running gear, which come out of injected plastic necessarily thicker than they were on the real machine. The difference is visible mainly from the side and when looking at an edge, where a plastic part reveals its thickness immediately.
The Tiger I was a German heavy tank of the Second World War. Very early production machines differ from the later ones in a number of details on the hull and the running gear, and the set is tied to that phase of production, so it need not fit later renderings.
Cut the photo-etched parts out of the fret with a sharp scalpel against a hard surface; do not break them out. Make the bends on a bending tool or between two blades, so that the edge is crisp and straight. Metal is glued with cyanoacrylate glue or soldered; ordinary cement for plastic does not hold. Before painting, degrease the sheet and apply a primer intended for metal, otherwise the paint will rub off during handling alone. A great advantage of thin sheet is that it can be convincingly dented or slightly bent, which looks better on a model of a worn machine than a perfectly flat surface. Once glued on, check that the skirts keep the same height above the running gear on both sides.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
