Turned metal 45 mm barrel for the Soviet KV-8 and KV-8S tanks in 1:35 scale from Aber. A replacement for the plastic barrel including its shroud.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a turned metal barrel in 1:35 scale from the Polish manufacturer Aber. It replaces the plastic barrel of the 45 mm gun on models of the Soviet KV-8 and KV-8S flamethrower heavy tanks. It is not a tank model but a detail accessory that gives the build an accurate barrel profile and a hollow muzzle.
The flamethrower version of the KV heavy tank carried a flame projector in its rotating turret, so the original 76.2 mm gun had to be replaced by a smaller 45 mm gun. To keep the vehicle from looking like an easier target on the battlefield, the slender barrel was hidden inside a shroud imitating a heavier gun. It is exactly this double construction that makes the barrel the striking recognition feature of the KV-8 and of the lightened KV-8S.
Cut the plastic part off where it seats in the mantlet, true up the opening and dry-fit the metal barrel first. Check that the inner barrel sits concentrically in the shroud, then bond it with super glue (cyanoacrylate) on a degreased surface. Apply a primer intended for metal before painting. Set off the Soviet green with restrained weathering; on flamethrower vehicles dusty tones suit the lower areas well.
This is a detail accessory, not a complete model. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
