A plastic kit of the T-18, the first series-produced tank of Soviet design, in 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The small tank known as the T-18 or MS-1 was the first tracked fighting vehicle designed and built in series in the Soviet Union. In shape it acknowledged the French Renault FT, from which it took the overall layout with the turret at the rear, but it received a new vertically sprung running gear and a more powerful engine. A 37 millimeter gun with a machine gun sat in the turret and the crew consisted of two men.
Production ran from 1928 to 1931 and around nine hundred machines left it. The vehicle made its combat debut in 1929 in the conflict over the Chinese Eastern Railway, where its weaknesses showed: low power, short range and minimal protection. In design terms it was a dead end, yet the type gave the industry there its first practical experience of armored vehicles. The surviving examples ended up in 1941 dug into fortifications as immobile firing positions.
The kit is intended to be built: the plastic is unpainted, and the modeler adds the adhesive and the shades according to the form of the machine chosen.
Small dimensions tempt you into thinking of quick work, but in fact they demand more precision. Every excess of glue shows on a short hull, seams are hard to fill without damaging the rivets and the tracks wrap around the small wheels less easily than on large machines. The reward is a model that fits in the palm of your hand and still carries the whole story of the beginnings of tank production there, including the unusually high silhouette and the turret set at the rear.
