A set of photo-etched parts in thin sheet intended to replace the side protective plates, the so-called Schürzen, on a model of the StuG III Ausf.G assault gun in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit of the vehicle, but an accessory for one. The reason is simple: plastic plates in kits are several times thicker than the real subject once converted to scale, and their edge shows on a finished model. Photo-etched sheet has a thickness close to scale, so the side wall of the vehicle looks properly thin, and on top of that it can be bent, dented or some parts left out altogether.
The StuG III was a German assault gun on the chassis of the Panzer III medium tank, built with no rotating turret and with the gun in the hull. The Ausf.G version was the most numerous production release of this type. On vehicles of this period the side plates were hung on rails along the sides of the hull and were meant to weaken the effect of anti-tank rifle rounds. In practice they were thin plates held by only a few hooks, so they were often bent, lost or missing from vehicles altogether, which for a modeler is an opportunity to set a model apart from the others.
Separate the parts on a hard surface with a sharp scalpel, not with scissors, so that the sheet does not buckle. Make straight bends in a bending tool or between two steel rulers, and create small damage, by contrast, with a blunt tool on a soft surface. Attach photo-etched sheet with cyanoacrylate glue applied with the tip of a wire, not from the tube. A primer intended for metal is necessary before painting, otherwise the paint comes off during handling. Dust and mud on the plates will finally bring the model together as a whole and hide small inaccuracies.
It is not a model of a vehicle, but an accessory for one. The base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
