The StuG III came about as a tracked assault gun for the direct support of infantry. It is built on the chassis of the Pz.Kpfw. III tank, has no rotating turret and its gun is mounted in a low fighting superstructure, so the machine has a strikingly flat silhouette. The early standard differs from the later versions in the shape of the superstructure and in the arrangement of the hatches, and these are precisely the details by which it can be told on a finished model which form of the vehicle it is.
The set deals with the rear part of the fighting superstructure in a new form. According to the name it is intended for the kit of the Tamiya brand, so the parts are based on its dimensions and on another kit it is necessary to count on fitting them. The extent of the set and the number of parts are given in the manufacturer's instructions enclosed with the package. The scale is 1:35.
First lay the parts on dry and check how they seat on the superstructure, and only then glue them. Cut the excess material and any marks from production off with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the rest away carefully, so that the edges seat with no gap. The suitable glue and the order of assembly are given in the manufacturer's instructions. Wash and degrease the whole before painting. On vehicles of this type the rear of the superstructure tends to be dusty and dirty, so it pays to bring out the shadows and deposits a little here.
The set is for modelers who are building the early standard of the StuG III and want to refine the rear of the superstructure on it. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
