Eduard 1:35 StuG IV schurzen is a photo-etched set of the side protective plates known as Schürzen, including their mountings, for a model of the StuG IV assault gun in 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory to a model, not a kit. The set contains photo-etched sheet-metal plates and the supporting structure for hanging them on the sides of a vehicle in 1:35 scale. This is precisely where photo-etched metal makes the most sense: the real plates were of thin sheet and a plastic version has to be many times thicker for technological reasons, which is immediately apparent in a side view. The metal version moreover makes it possible to bend a plate, dent it or leave one out altogether, which matches the state of vehicles in service.
Schürzen were thin steel plates hung on the sides of German vehicles of the Second World War. They served as add-on protection for the flanks and were carried on a simple bar structure. In practice they were often damaged or lost, so vehicles commonly ran with an incomplete or buckled set.
Before fitting, decide on the final state: a continuous row of straight plates, or missing and bent pieces. The metal can be shaped with the fingers over a round bar; make the bend smoothly rather than as a crease. Build the support bar and the mountings and let them cure properly, and only then hang the individual plates. Glue with cyanoacrylate in drops applied with a pin. Paint with the plates fitted, but first prime them separately with a primer for metal. When weathering, do not forget that the most mud and dust collects behind the plates: that is exactly where pigments and a darker wash belong.
This is an accessory for modelers, not a standalone model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
