This photo-etched brass set serves to detail a plastic model of the German heavy sWS half-track tractor in the version carrying the 20 mm Flakvierling quadruple anti-aircraft gun in 1:35 scale. It adds fine elements of the gun mount, the platform and the hull that sharpen the appearance of this open vehicle.

The real subject

The sWS (schwerer Wehrmachtsschlepper) was a German heavy half-track tractor of the later part of the Second World War, designed as a simplified replacement for the earlier half-tracks. In the version with the 20 mm Flakvierling anti-aircraft gun it served to protect against low-flying aircraft; the quadruple mount on the open platform is its most prominent feature.

Building and painting tips

Separate the small parts with a sharp knife, shape the bends on a bending tool and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue. Paint the gun mount and the platform before the vehicle is closed up. A wash and pigments bring out the intricate surfaces of the mount, the seats and the running gear.
