1:35 U.S Tank Crewman #2

The figure

The figure represents an American tank crewman in 1:35 scale, that is, in the most widespread scale for military vehicles. A grown man stands about five centimeters tall in it. The number two in the name tells the individual figures within the range apart; it is not an order of assembly.

Field of use

On a model of an armored vehicle, the crew is what gives the scene both its scale and its story. An empty tank looks like an exhibit, whereas a figure in the turret hatch or beside the track suggests a situation at once. A single figure also serves as an addition to another diorama, or as a standalone practice piece for figure painting, which is a rewarding discipline in this scale.

Building and painting tips

• Cut the surplus material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder off.
• Wash and degrease the figure before painting so that the primer holds.
• Choose the glue according to the material of the parts; super glue holds on resin as well as on plastic.
• Check the color scheme of the uniform and the equipment against documentation on the real subject.
• Paint the face in thin coats, build the shadows up in stages and leave the eyes until last.
• Unify the finished figure with a matte varnish and add gloss only on the skin and the metal parts.

Who it is for

The figure suits builders of military vehicles in 1:35 scale who want to add a crew to the model, and also modelers who enjoy painting figures. If you are building a scene with several figures, it is worth thinking through in advance how the figures will be turned toward each other and toward the vehicle. Before gluing, try the figure dry in the place where you want to fit it, especially if that is a hatch or a seat. Paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
