1:35 Unicef – cardboard boxes is a printed paper accessory for a diorama in 1:35 scale from ETA diorama, not a kit and not a waterslide decal. The sheet holds preprinted flat developments of boxes with humanitarian aid motifs that are cut out, folded and glued into three-dimensional crates.

This sheet from ETA diorama is not a resin or plastic set of crates. It is printed paper from which you fold the three-dimensional boxes yourself. That is precisely why the result is thin-walled and in 1:35 scale looks more convincing than a casting with thick walls – at this scale paper has practically the correct thickness of real cardboard.
Cut the developments out with a sharp knife along a rule. It is a good idea to score the fold lines in advance with the blunt side of a knife or an empty ballpoint pen drawn along a rule; the material then breaks exactly where it should. Glue the flaps with PVA glue applied with a skewer or a toothpick in a small amount, so that the paper does not buckle. Anyone who wants the boxes to be strong can fill them from inside with a piece of balsa or rigid foam – a finished crate will then take a figure and the weight of a layer of further boxes. It is a good idea to leave some of the boxes open or half empty; a pile of identical closed crates looks static.
New cardboard is light and straight, used cardboard dirty and dented. So round the corners lightly with the pressure of a fingernail, run dark pastel or a dry brush with an ocher paint over the edges and bring out the surfaces with a very thin wash. Matte clear coat at the end unifies the surface and the paper stops reflecting light. The boxes suit scenes with a humanitarian and supply theme, trucks, pallets, stores, ruined interiors and figures of civilians.
