A photo-etched set in 1:35 scale from E.T. Model with CIP identification panels for the American HMMWV light utility vehicles, commonly known as the Humvee. The panels are fitted to the sides and rear of the vehicle on frames standing off from the body and serve to tell friendly vehicles apart when they are observed through thermal imaging devices. The package holds photo-etched panels and mounting items; it is not a kit of the vehicle.
On a light vehicle the panels are fairly large and form a prominent part of the silhouette, so how they are made has a marked effect on the overall impression. The plastic parts from a kit tend to be thick and often sit directly against the body, which loses the characteristic gap. Photo-etched metal keeps both the thickness and the standoff on the frame, and the side view of the model thereby gains the right profile. The set suits vehicles built in a particular deployment.
Locate the position of the brackets first from photographs of the vehicle you are building; the layout differs with the version and the modification. Bend the frames along the score lines and glue them to the model before the panels, so that everything lies in one plane. Degrease the metal with alcohol and glue it with a minimum of cyanoacrylate. Spray a base coat for metal before painting. The panels tend to be a different shade from the vehicle, so paint them separately and fit them last. Fine dust on the upper edge and light scuffing where the brackets are will give the result credibility.
This is an accessory photo-etched set, not a complete model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
