About product

Archer 1:35, US Army uniform patches, the 41st and 42nd Infantry Divisions and the Rangers

A sheet of dry transfers in 1:35 scale with US Army uniform patches. According to the name it contains the markings of the 41st and 42nd Infantry Divisions and of Ranger units. The set is intended for marking figures; it is not a model, a kit or a package of figures.

Dry transfers are not soaked

Before first use it is essential to know that the sheet is not soaked off in water. Cut the motif out together with its carrier film, lay it face down on the sleeve of the figure, hold it with tweezers and burnish gently with a rounded point, a toothpick, a bone burnisher or a pencil without lead. The motif passes from the film straight into the finish. Lift the carrier film slowly and at an angle, so that you can put it back and burnish an unfinished spot again. Soaking the sheet in water will ruin it.

Why a dry transfer in particular suits figures

The Ranger unit patch and the division markings are so small in 1:35 scale that with a waterslide decal it is the carrier film that is most distracting: on the matte, uneven cloth of a uniform it leaves a glossy island behind. A dry transfer leaves no film behind and the patch looks as if it had been painted with a brush. The surface should be smooth, well dried and degreased. The sleeve is rounded, so lead the pressure from the center of the motif out to the edges and work in small steps. A magnifier and good light come in useful. After transfer, spray the figure with matte varnish; the transfer is sealed and will take further shading and weathering.

Who the set is for

  • builders of US Army figures in 1:35 scale
  • modelers who build scenes with Ranger units
  • makers of dioramas with convincing uniform detail
  • patient modelers working with tweezers and a magnifier

The set contains the markings only, not figures or a model. The exact breakdown of the patches is stated on the box.
