It is not a model in its own right; it is a small but immensely useful accessory with which you fit out American equipment or settle a diorama in 1:35 scale. It is exactly details of this kind that turn a static model into a believable scene.
Standardized cans have accompanied the American army from the Second World War to the present day. Dedicated cans were used for drinking water, and they differed from the fuel ones in their marking and their make-up, so that there would be no mix-up in the field. They were carried on the beds of trucks and on jeeps, at field kitchens and at unit posts, so on a diorama they find a use almost anywhere.
Clean the castings up, wash them and spray a base muted military shade. Then add chipping on the edges, a fine wash into the embossed recesses and dust pigments, because cans in the field carried the marks of everyday use. Spreading them around the bed of a vehicle or into a little group at a field camp will give a scene a natural, lived-in look.
