A photo-etched accessory set in 1:35 scale from the Polish maker Aber, intended for refining a plastic model of the American M10 tank destroyer. The package holds photo-etched metal parts, that is thin plates with a fine relief that replace details inevitably simplified by injection molding. It is not a model in its own right: you use the set as an accessory to a plastic kit that you obtain separately.
Photo-etched parts solve exactly what plastic molds cannot manage: the thin edges of fenders and covers, grilles, brackets, loops, tool clamps, straps and other small items that in reality are tenths of a millimeter thick. On a model the difference shows above all on the edges seen from the side and on surfaces where a plastic part looks heavy-handed. On the open turret of a tank destroyer, where the inside is in plain view, the investment in fine detail pays back especially visibly.
Cut the parts off the fret with sharp scissors or a scalpel on a surface, and never break them out. Make the bends on a bending tool or at least between two razor blades, always along the scored line. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, ideally applied with a pin in the smallest possible amount, because cement for plastic does not hold on brass. Degrease the brass before painting and apply a primer, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth metal and will flake off while handling. Work in sections and fit the photo-etched parts only at the moment you really need them on the model, otherwise they get bent.
This is an accessory set, not a model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
