1:35 An American airborne soldier of the Second World War running with an M2 machine gun over his shoulder is a CMK resin figure in a dynamic pose.
Responsibility details are not available.
A resin figure in 1:35 scale from the maker CMK. The pose is described exactly in the name: the figure is running and carries an M2 machine gun over its shoulder. That is an exception among figures, because a running figure does not suit a static display case, while it gives a scene movement and action. At the same time it is more demanding to set up, since a runner as a rule touches the ground with only one foot and has its center of gravity far ahead of the point of support.
The casting comes on a casting block. First wash it in lukewarm water with detergent because of the mold release agent and let it dry. Cut the block off with a fine-toothed saw and sand the remainder down, and scrape the parting line along the outer sides of the legs and arms with the edge of a scalpel. Then comes the most important part: a running figure is glued by only part of a foot, possibly only by the toe, which will not hold on a finished scene even during ordinary handling. Drill through the supporting foot with a fine drill, therefore, glue a piece of wire into it and push that into the base. A machine gun carried over the shoulder is a substantial separate element that throws the figure off balance even further. We recommend gluing it with cyanoacrylate glue and supporting the joint while it cures, so that the weapon does not slide before the glue takes hold. Check also whether the shoulder and the hand really contact the weapon, as a small gap always gives itself away with this pose.
The figure sets two very different surfaces side by side. Paint the weapon with a dark base and carefully burnish the edges that get rubbed most in use, that is the carrying surface, the grip and the edge of the bolt. An effective yet restrained trick is to go over the chosen edges with a soft pencil lead, which gives metal a subdued sheen without a chrome effect. Keep the uniform matte, by contrast, and in mild contrast, pulling the folds out with a thin glaze. Build the skin in three steps and suggest the eyes with a dark line under a magnifier. On a running figure the face stays largely in the shadow of the helmet, so there it is better to strengthen the brown glaze a little rather than the highlight. Finally tie the figure in with the scene from the bottom: the boot and the hem of the trousers get an earthy tint matching the terrain and matte clear coat closes the whole off, with only the burnished edges of the weapon standing out of it.
The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted as a resin casting. Glue, paints and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
