An injection-molded plastic kit of the German VK45.01(P) Rammtiger vehicle in 1:35 scale from the manufacturer Das Werk. The model has a one-piece superstructure, working suspension and individual track links that stay movable once assembled. The rear doors can be shown open or closed, giving a view inside. The package holds the plastic sprues and decals with several color schemes; check the exact parts counts against the instructions.
The Rammtiger was a planned conversion of the VK45.01(P) chassis - the same Porsche chassis from which the heavy Ferdinand/Elefant tank destroyer also came. In place of a turret the vehicle carried a massive armored ramming superstructure with a wedge at the front. The purpose was to break through obstacles and, in urban fighting, to ram buildings and bring down their load-bearing structures. The project stayed experimental; only a few superstructures were built and in 1943 the intention was abandoned. The vehicle thus never reached production service.
With a tracked vehicle, assemble and paint the running gear first and only then close up the hull; the working suspension and the movable tracks make it easier to settle the model onto a base. The massive armored surfaces of the superstructure call for strong color modulation, washes into the welds and the rivets and both dust and mud pigments on the lower parts. We recommend an airbrush and a liquid cement for plastic.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
