An accessory for building a scene in 1:35 scale with the motif of a wooden floor. A plank floor moves a display from the open air inside a building, into a barn, a workshop, a store or a damaged house, and it suits everywhere that figures or machinery are to stand on something other than soil and paving. The size of the area and the number of sheets are stated by the manufacturer on the packaging.
First lay the area in place and trace it, and only then trim it to the shape you need. Cut with a sharp blade against a rule and make several light strokes instead of one heavy one. The undercoat you seat the area on has to be flat and firm, otherwise the edges will lift once the glue has dried. Apply the glue evenly and press the area down until it sets.
Wood never has a single shade. So play the individual planks off against each other in slightly different tones and bring out the joints between them with a dark wash. Always try the procedure out first on an offcut or on an edge that will be hidden under a wall, because not every surface takes a damp wash equally well. A finished floor then suits a little disorder: straw, shards, spilled ammunition or boot marks.
It suits builders of dioramas as well as modelers who want to give a figure or a vehicle a setting and are after a ready-made base instead of laboriously laying a floor from individual planks. Figures, models, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
