A photo-etched detail set in 1:35 scale from the Chinese manufacturer Voyager Model for the German prototype self-propelled gun known as the Heuschrecke IVb, meaning grasshopper. The set adds to the plastic kit thin sheet, mesh and small external equipment at a scale thickness. The model itself is not part of the package and has to be bought separately. The set is cut for the Dragon 6439 kit.
The Heuschrecke IVb was a development project for a self-propelled gun on a shortened chassis derived from the Panzer IV. Its peculiarity was a removable turret with a howitzer, which could be lifted off by means of an onboard crane gear and set on the ground as a field firing position; the vehicle then served to carry ammunition. The project never reached series production and got no further than a small number of prototypes, which makes it an unusual subject with a clearly readable structure.
On a vehicle as broken up as this the order of work is the key. Go through the whole set of instructions first and divide the parts into groups according to where they belong: the chassis and the running gear, the hull, the turret section. Deal with the running gear and everything that ends up under the superstructure before you close anything up, otherwise you will no longer reach it. Photo-etched groups that will be inaccessible once the build is complete should be assembled, painted and weathered separately and fitted only when finished. Where possible, leave the removable turret unglued; the model will then take both display states.
This is an add-on set, not a model. The plastic kit, glue, paints and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
