A targeted photo-etched set in 1:35 scale from the Chinese manufacturer Voyager Model. The set deals with the equipment of the rear part of the fighting compartment of the Sd.Kfz.251/1 half-track armored personnel carrier in its Ausf. D version, that is with the seats and the stowage boxes. It is an accessory for the build, not a kit; the plastic model from Dragon has to be bought separately.
The Sd.Kfz.251 was a German half-track armored personnel carrier used to carry infantry and in a whole range of derived specialized versions. The Ausf. D configuration was a late simplified variant with sloped side panels and stowage boxes built into the sides of the hull. The 251/1 version is the basic carrier configuration. The fighting compartment is open at the top, so the interior stays permanently visible on the finished model.
With an interior set the order of work decides more than with anything else. Fit and paint the seats and the boxes before you glue the side panels on and fit the top edges, because once the hull is closed up you will not reach the corners even with tweezers. Work from the rear forward and keep test-fitting dry to see whether the side panels still seat once the interior is in; a photo-etched lining adds tenths of a millimeter, and they add up. Apply the paint to the interior before the outer camouflage arrives and mask the boundary. Dispense weathering into the interior sparingly, because an excessively dirty interior under an open roof comes across as unconvincing.
This is an add-on set, not a model. The plastic kit, glue, paints and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
