The 1:35 ZSU-23-4 Shilka wheel masking set is a sheet of pre-cut templates for separating the rubber tires from the disks of the road wheels. The set is cut for the kit from the manufacturer Dragon.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory for painting, not a kit. The templates set the boundary between the rubber tire and the disk of a road wheel. The set is cut for the model of the self-propelled antiaircraft system ZSU-23-4 Shilka from the manufacturer Dragon, and the outline of the masks therefore corresponds to the wheels from this mold.
The ZSU-23-4 Shilka is a Soviet self-propelled antiaircraft system on a tracked chassis, armed with a quadruple 23 mm cannon and fitted with a fire-control radar. The road wheels are easily accessible on a model from the side, so it pays to do clean work on them.
The disk of a road wheel need not stay only in the shade of the vehicle. A number of modelers use a mask to give the center of a wheel a metallic hint, whether as bare metal in places of worn paint, or as an overall steel tone on a spare wheel stowed on the hull. The procedure is reversed, though. Metallic shades have a coarser pigment, they are harder to spray over and masking material easily tears a layer off them when peeled. Spray the metal first, therefore, let it cure properly, if need be run a thin layer of clear over it, and only then apply the mask and paint the rubber tire. Peel the mask off slowly and at an angle to the side, not straight upward.
The package holds only the masking templates. The kit, paints and thinners are not included in it. Before purchase verify that you are building exactly the kit mentioned.
