An injection-molded plastic kit of the Arado Ar 195 carrier biplane in 1:350 from the maker Trumpeter. The package holds several examples of the same aircraft and serves as an accessory to ship models — the deck and the hangar of an aircraft carrier in 1:350 are fitted out with it. In this scale the aircraft is only a few centimeters in size, so the build is short but calls for a sure hand.
The Ar 195 was a German carrier biplane designed as a torpedo and reconnaissance machine for a planned aircraft carrier. The design came out of the ideas of the day about a carrier aircraft — a sturdy biplane arrangement, fixed landing gear and the possibility of carrying a torpedo under the fuselage. In testing the type did not convince, only a few prototypes were built and it reached neither series production nor service. That is precisely why the model is interesting: it is a machine that practically cannot be seen in any form other than a model.
With a biplane in this scale the alignment of the lifting surfaces is the key — glue the struts to the lower wing first, let them dry and only then fit the upper one. Glue with thin plastic cement by capillary action, with a fine brush. Spraying is the surest way of painting, as a small surface is easily flooded by thick paint from a brush. Use a wash only as a suggestion; on such a small area a strong emphasis would look unnatural.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
