The German submarine U-40, type IX A (Turm I) 1:400 is an injection-molded plastic kit from the Polish maker Mirage Hobby.
Responsibility details are not available.
This 1:400 scale kit captures the German ocean-going submarine U-40 of type IX A with the Turm I form of conning tower. It is an injection-molded plastic model from the Polish brand Mirage Hobby; the box holds plastic parts and a decal sheet. The small scale makes it a rewarding piece for the display case or for a stand.
The type IX A boats were large ocean-going submarines meant for long-range operations. The first eight boats of the series were ordered in 1936 and built by the shipyard in Bremen. At the start of the war U-40 carried a prominent Gothic marking on the conning tower and was among the early units committed in the Atlantic.
Glue the hull, then fill and sand the joints all round so that the seam line disappears. Clean the fine parts of the tower and the deck carefully. A small scale suits thin coats of paint laid on with an airbrush and a restrained emphasis of the panels with a wash. The model shows well on a stand, whether the one supplied or one of your own; lay the decals on a varnished base.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
