A set of 20 turned metal barrels for the 20 mm L/70 Oerlikon anti-aircraft gun in 1:400 scale from the Polish maker Aber. Intended for models of US Navy and Royal Navy ships.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set brings twenty turned metal barrels for the 20 mm anti-aircraft gun of the Oerlikon type with an L/70 barrel, in 1:400 scale. It serves as a replacement for the plastic barrels on models of US Navy and Royal Navy ships and is not a standalone model. In this scale a metal barrel keeps the slenderness and the clean outline that a plastic molding cannot reach because of the mold and shrinkage.
The 20 mm Oerlikon gun is a Swiss design that both the United States and Great Britain produced under license during the Second World War and fitted to practically every type of ship, from escort vessels to aircraft carriers. The weapon was worked from an open single mounting with a shoulder rest and a drum magazine; twin mountings appeared later. It was the most widespread light anti-aircraft weapon of the Allied navies, so the set covers a very wide range of models.
Cut off the plastic barrels as close to the carriage as possible and carefully drill the hole left behind to the diameter of the pin on the metal part. Degrease the metal with alcohol before gluing and roughen the mating surface slightly, then glue it with cyanoacrylate glue in small drops. In 1:400 scale the parts are very small, so tweezers, a light-colored mat and working over a box all pay off, so that a barrel does not get lost. Paint only once a base coat intended for metal is down, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface.
This is a detail accessory for your own model, not a complete kit of a ship. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package.
