The sixth part of the range of decals by the Czech maker AML Decals devoted to No. 312 (Czechoslovak) Squadron RAF, in 1:48 scale. These are waterslide decals, not a kit or a finished model. The sheet brings three finish options for Supermarine Spitfire aircraft, among them the low-altitude version LF Mk.Vc and the later LF Mk.IXe. Three schemes on one sheet make it a good choice for modelers building several machines of one unit.
The Spitfire Mk.Vc differed from the Mk.Vb in having the so-called universal wing, which allowed various armament fits. In the LF form its engine was tuned for low altitudes, where most of the later escort and attack operations over the Channel and over the mainland took place. The Mk.IXe then brought a two-stage supercharger and markedly better performance at altitude. No. 312 Squadron RAF was formed in 1940 from Czechoslovak airmen, went through Hurricanes and several generations of Spitfires and carried the fuselage code DU.
It pays to plan the order of work: first the complete spraying and curing of the paints, then the gloss coat, and only after that the decals. Cut the markings out closely, soak them in warm water and let them rest until the carrier film releases by itself. After transferring, blot the excess water away and adjust the position while the decal is still movable. Use the softener sparingly and preferably repeatedly; too aggressive a dose can crease the thin film. Once it is completely dry, go over the model with a matte or semi-gloss coat and only then deal with the weathering.
The package holds only decals. The kit, the paints and the glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
