An Aviattic decal sheet with the five-color lozenge pattern oriented diagonally at 45 degrees, with joined strips for the upper flying surfaces. This is the faded version: the tones of the polygons are lightened and subdued, as the fabric looked after months of service at the front.
German preprinted covering fabric of the First World War was laid diagonally on some machines, with the widths of fabric at 45 degrees to the longitudinal axis, which is a recognition feature clearly visible in period photographs. The colors of the covering faded quickly in the sun and the weather, so the faded version of the decal faithfully captures a machine with longer service, while the saturated factory fresh sheets match an aircraft straight from the works.
Thanks to the joined strips you cover the upper surfaces with a continuous piece, so before pushing the water out, check that the diagonal direction of the widths matches the documentation. Prepare the base smooth and glossy and use softener on the edges and the raised detail. A faded covering is filled out superbly by a fine oil wash in the lines of the ribs and a matte clear coat; for contrast, one area can be done in the more saturated version as a replaced panel.
This is a decal sheet, an accessory to a model. The aircraft kit, the paints and the glue are not included in the package.
