A resin casting of the AGM-62 Walleye guided bomb intended as underwing armament for models of American combat aircraft in 1:48 scale. Casting in a silicone mold allows a clean surface with no mold seam and sharp fin edges, which with injection-molded plastic would call for laborious cleanup. Eduard is a Czech maker from Obrnice near Most. Neither a model of the aircraft nor the pylon from a kit is part of the package.
The AGM-62 Walleye is an American guided glide bomb with no propulsion of its own, guided by a television camera in the front of the body. After release it glides to the target on aerodynamic surfaces, so it draws the energy for the flight from the altitude and speed of the carrier. The Walleye I standard is the basic, shorter and lighter variant of the family; later standards were larger and supplemented with a data link. A characteristic feature is the rounded guidance window at the front and the cruciform surfaces at the rear.
With stores, symmetry is what decides. Before you start gluing, check that the bombs hang at the same height and at the same angle under both wings; the surest way is to glue both pylons, let them cure and only then hang the load. Printing or drawing a simple template helps. Watch the weight as well: resin is heavier than plastic, and several stores can shift the center of gravity on a model with a nose wheel. Try standing the model dry and add ballast in the nose if needed. The surface of the bomb is smooth, so technical lettering and bands are applied over a gloss base so that the decals do not go matte and silver. Finally, even the whole store out with a matte or satin clear coat. Before painting, do not forget to wash the casting in warm water with dish soap to remove the mold release agent.
