A plastic kit of the American Bellanca CH-400 Skyrocket aircraft in 1:48 scale from the maker Dora Wings - a single-engined high-wing monoplane of the interwar era of long-distance flights.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:48 scale from the Ukrainian maker Dora Wings, which concentrates on interwar and record-breaking aircraft, that is, on subjects the large brands usually do not offer. The kit is short-run in character, the parts have fine engraving, but the build assumes that the modeler watches the fit and the geometry himself. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The maker also makes the same type in a smaller scale; this item is the 1:48 version.
The Bellanca CH-400 Skyrocket is an American single-engined high-wing monoplane from the turn of the 1920s and 1930s. In design it is remarkable for its handling of the struts: the airfoil-section struts between the fuselage and the wing are not merely a load-bearing element but generate lift themselves and work practically as an additional lifting surface. Thanks to that the aircraft had an excellent ratio of load to fuel consumption for its day, which made it a favored machine for long-distance and record flights. It was powered by an air-cooled radial engine in the nose, and the landing gear was fixed, of the tailwheel type. Machines of this family turned up repeatedly on the entry lists of record attempts in the era of pioneering long-distance flights.
The key to a good result is the geometry of the wing and the struts. Fit the wing dry, check the dihedral and the angle of incidence from several views and only then glue it; the lifting struts are meant to hold the assembly in the right position once set, so fit them with the model supported on a flat surface. The engine section with its radial deserves time: the cylinders separated with a deeper shade, the exhaust pipes brown-black, and then a fine wash to bring out the finning. Before gluing the fuselage together, check the balance and add weight. Interwar and record machines were usually finished in gloss and with bold lettering, so work as you would on a car model: primer, thin coats, gloss varnish before the decals and a setting solution, so that long lettering settles on a rounded fuselage. Keep the patina restrained; a polished gloss suits it better than wear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
