The wheels of kits tend to be simplified in shape, with a visible parting line and often with an indistinct tread, so a replacement is among the quickest ways to move a model on, because the wheels on the landing gear are always on view. The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress was an American four-engine bomber with radial piston engines, employed in daylight operations over Europe. The F and G versions differ from each other above all in equipment and in the glazing of the nose, with the G being the most numerously built variant of the type. The aircraft stood on a conventional landing gear with a tailwheel at the rear, and the main gear legs retracted into the nacelles of the inboard engines. The tires of large bombers were supplied during production by several suppliers, and so on period machines you will meet several different tread patterns, which are easy to tell apart in photographs.
Precisely because several tread patterns existed, check the tread against a photograph of the particular machine you are building. Sets with a different pattern exist as well, so the choice is not obvious. Before gluing, wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent so that they are rid of the remains of production, and let them dry perfectly. Cut them off with a fine-toothed saw, not with nippers. Use super glue for gluing. Lay on a base before painting, otherwise the paint holds badly on the smooth surface. If the set holds separate hubs, paint them separately and join them only once dry, and you will save yourself the masking.
It is not a kit of the aircraft. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
