A set of photo-etched metal parts from the Czech manufacturer Eduard in 1:48 scale, intended to make a plastic model of the four-engined heavy bomber Boeing B-17F Flying Fortress more precise. It is not a kit of the aircraft, but an accessory which is glued into a plastic model that has been built. The name in this code series is given without a subtitle, which is a common convention of whole series at Eduard, but it cannot be read from the name which areas of the aircraft the set is aimed at. Check the range and the number of parts in the manufacturer's catalog, therefore. Photo-etched sheet is used where injection-molded plastic is too thick, that is, on instrument panels, seats, belts, stiffeners and small items of equipment.
The B-17F was one of the production versions of the American four-engined heavy bomber Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress. It was driven by Wright R-1820 Cyclone radial engines and was committed in daylight bombing operations during the Second World War. It differed from the later G version above all in the arrangement of the forward part of the fuselage. Inside the fuselage the pilot compartment, the bomb bay, the radio operator compartment and the space of the waist gunners followed one on another, which makes the B-17 a rewarding subject for modelers who want to open the interior up to view.
Separate the parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, not with pliers, so that they are not deformed. Make the bends in a photo-etch bending tool or between two razor blades. Degrease the metal with alcohol before painting and go over it with a primer for metals. They are glued with super glue or with a binder for photo-etched parts. The interior is commonly sprayed with an airbrush and the details are brought out with a dark wash and a dry brush. Try every part dry first, because even small deviations of a plastic kit may call for adjustment.
