A photo-etched conversion set from the Polish maker Aber in 1:48 scale for the British Cromwell cruiser tank in the Mk.I version. It is not a model of the tank but an accessory to a plastic kit, which you must own separately. A conversion set differs from an ordinary detail set in that it does not merely refine the existing parts but changes the model into a different variant of the real vehicle – here into the early version armed with a different main weapon from the later production machines.
The Cromwell was a British cruiser tank with the Rolls-Royce Meteor engine, a V12 derived from the aero Merlin. Thanks to it the tank was among the fastest of its day. The early Mk.I form carried a 57 mm gun, that is a 6-pounder, while the later versions received a 75 mm gun. The vehicles served above all with British and Allied armored divisions in northwest Europe from 1944, and a number of them in the reconnaissance role as well.
A conversion is more demanding than ordinary detailing – reckon with having to cut off or sand away some of the plastic parts so that the metal ones seat properly. Work in small steps and keep trying the fit dry as you go. Separate the photo-etched parts with a scalpel, bend them in a bending tool and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue. Degrease the metal before painting and spray it with a primer for metal. British vehicles are usually painted in dark green shades backed by a wash into the gaps and dusty pigments.
This is a conversion accessory, not a standalone model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
