Resin castings of the large packs of British infantry of the First World War in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer Plusmodel. Equipment set down is among the simplest ways to give a diorama life; a little heap of packs by the entrance to a dugout or a load on a two-wheeled cart tells a story even without a single figure.
The British soldier of the First World War carried canvas webbing with a large pack on his back, completed by smaller pouches, a haversack and a canteen. Unlike the hairy German pack it was a softer, textile version in a khaki shade that shaped itself to its contents as it was carried. It is precisely the creased, irregular shape that makes the packs a rewarding modeling detail on which shading comes out well.
After washing and cutting the casting blocks off, glue the parts with cyanoacrylate glue. The basis is khaki and sand, with the buckles and straps set apart in a darker shade. A fine brown wash will settle the colors into the hollows, and drybrushing will bring the seams and edges out. You can sink the packs partly into the mud of a trench, a typical picture of the Western Front.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
