The kit from the Czech manufacturer Valom brings one of the most widespread light twin-engine aircraft in the world in 1:48 scale. According to the name the box is aimed at machines in the service of the Philippine coast guard and navy, that is, at patrol and communications deployment over the sea and over island areas. The model is supplied unassembled and to finish it you will need plastic cement and paints.
The Islander is a British high-wing aircraft with fixed nose landing gear and a pair of piston engines in nacelles on the wing. It came about in the second half of the 1960s as a simple and durable machine for short routes, operation from unpaved surfaces and easy maintenance in remote areas. The angular fuselage with large side doors allows quick loading and unloading, thanks to which the aircraft serves for island transport, patrolling along coastlines, search and rescue as well as light transport and communications tasks. It was produced in many civil and military versions and stayed in service for several decades, which makes it a rewarding subject with a varied range of finishes.
Before gluing, clean the parts, remove the flash and carry out a dry run of the assembly. Finish and paint the cockpit interior before you close the fuselage. The extensive glazing is a prominent element with this type, so it pays to mask the glass with tape and to spray the frames gradually in thin layers. Lay primer under the whole model, so that the paint holds and so that any shortcomings in the seams stand out. Apply the decals onto gloss clear, use softener and finally unify the surface with matte or semi-gloss clear. Patrol machines tend to be worn from service, so a discreet panel wash and a light accenting of the edges will do the model good.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
