Decals for two Douglas C-47A transports in the service of a Polish airline in 1946 and 1947, in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
During the Second World War the twin engine Douglas became the most widespread transport aircraft of the Allies, and when it ended hundreds of them were left with no task. European airlines trying to restore operations on the ruins of a prewar network reached for them as the most available type that could be obtained. The sturdy airframe managed short and unpaved surfaces, Europe was full of spare parts, and conversion to a transport layout mainly meant adding seats and blanking off the cargo door.
The Polish carrier that was returning to service after the war took exactly this route. The machines were given civil registrations and flew in a finish that combined a bare metal surface with company lettering.
The sheet offers two finishes. The first belongs to a machine with a construction number beginning with forty-two and a registration ending in the letters LCB, operated in 1946 and 1947. The second covers a sister aircraft with a registration ending in the letters LCF from 1946.
It is interesting that both aircraft came from wartime production and reached the carrier only after being repainted. The model therefore tells the story of the transition from the freight gate of the front to a scheduled route.
A civil version means large areas of bare duralumin, on which every irregularity in the paintwork is visible. It therefore pays to sand the joints down before spraying and to apply the lettering only onto a perfectly smooth glossy surface, otherwise matte edges will appear under the film.
