A masking set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard in 1:48 scale. It is not a model of the aircraft and not parts of it, but an aid for painting: the precut templates are stuck onto the surfaces that are to stay clean, the spray goes over them and, once they are taken off, a sharp edge remains with no running under. On glazing and on the rounded frames of a cabin this is markedly more accurate and quicker than tape cut by hand. Watch out for the distinction of the kind of product: photo-etched sets are also made under the same name, while this is a masking set. The shapes of the templates match a particular model of the Sabre F.4 in 1:48 scale, so check the match with your kit in advance.
Sabre F.4 is the designation of the Canadian license version of the jet fighter aircraft F-86 Sabre as it was taken into service with the Royal Air Force (RAF) at the beginning of the 1950s. It was a single-engined machine with a swept wing and a frontal circular air intake, typical in design terms of the first generation of fighters shaped for transonic speeds. With the British units the Sabre bridged the period until home-built swept-wing types were taken into service.
Degrease the surface and let it dry completely; on greasy paint a mask does not hold. Transfer the templates with tweezers and press them down along the whole perimeter with a wooden stick. Spray thinly and several times over, as a heavy layer runs under. Take the mask off while the paint is only tacky. On the polished metal surface typical of this era, take care over a sound smooth base — metallic shades do not cover and will bring out every scratch. Apply the metallic paint at the very end, as it is harder to overspray and to mask.
