This accessory is not a model nor a kit - it is a set of castings of coffins in 1:48 scale, meant to complete a finished diorama or vignette. It comes into its own in civilian and field scenes alike, by the load area of a vehicle, in a yard, by the wall of a building or as part of a storage composition. It is a sensitive motif, so it pays to work sparingly and let the craft itself tell.
Coffins in this scale work best at the moment when they are not the main theme but merely complete the action. They combine well with figures, with a flatbed wagon or with the diorama elements of the same series - a wall, paving or a roadway. Because they are separate castings, you can stack them in a pile, lean them against a wall or lay them on a truck bed, according to what the scene needs.
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with detergent, so that no mold release agent stays on the surface, and let them dry through properly. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw and level the area with abrasive paper on glass or on a hard surface - with angular shapes every unevenness tells. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Begin the painting with a thin primer, or the paint will not hold on the smooth surface. Wood can be built up from a middle brown, a dark wash into the seams and very fine drybrushing along the edges; in seeking the structure a thin glaze applied with a flat brush in the direction of the grain helps. If you want the surface lacquered, finish with a semi-matte varnish; with raw wood stay with matte. Suggest dust and mud with pigments only from below and along the edges, so that the detail does not disappear.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
