Photo-etched fenders for the Cromwell in 1:48 scale from the Czech maker Hauler replace the thick plastic fenders with thin brass sheet that can be shaped and damaged as on the real machine.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory set made of photo-etched brass sheet, not a kit. It is cut for the Tamiya kit and replaces the fenders over the tracks. The fender is a part where plastic can never stand up: in reality it is a sheet a few millimeters thick, so in 1:48 scale it works out at practically the thickness of paper. Because of the mold a molded part has to be many times thicker, and at the edge you can tell at first glance.
The Cromwell was a fast British cruiser tank committed from the fighting in Normandy in 1944 onwards. Its fenders were in sections, mounted on brackets, and in the field they were among the most vulnerable parts of the machine - often bent, partly torn off or missing altogether. From a modeling point of view that is exactly what is interesting, because such a detail gives a finished model credibility.
Run straight bends in a bender or between two razor blades pressed to the bend line. Brass can be briefly annealed over a flame and left to cool - it softens and shapes better, which helps above all on curved areas. If you want to suggest a damaged fender, bend the sheet with a wooden toothpick over a soft surface so that a natural wave appears without sharp kinks. Glue the brackets and clips with super glue, degrease the surfaces and back them with a primer for metal. After the base color it pays to suggest wear on the edges with a graphite pencil or a dark metallic pigment.
This is an accessory for building a model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
