The DH.60 Moth is a British light biplane of the late 1920s that fundamentally widened the availability of flying for flying clubs and private owners alike. The design built on a wooden frame covered with fabric, a two-seat tandem layout and folding wings, thanks to which the aircraft fitted into an ordinary garage or onto the deck of a ship. The Gipsy Moth version was given the de Havilland Gipsy inline engine, which offered higher reliability than the older powerplants. The version with an enclosed cabin improved the comfort of the crew in cold and damp, and that was exactly what mattered on expedition work in polar regions. Fitting floats made it possible to take off and land on water where there was nowhere to build an airfield.
On a biplane the geometry decides everything: try the seating of the upper wing and the struts dry first, and prepare a simple jig that will hold the wing at the right height until the glue sets. Glue the floats on only once the fuselage is finished and watch that they stand parallel — on a finished model every deviation shows. Paint the cabin and the interior before you close the fuselage. Rig the bracing wires between the wings from fine thread or rigging wire only after varnishing and applying the decals. Before the decals, cover the surface with a gloss varnish compatible with the paint used, and once it has dried, even the surface out with a matte varnish.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
