A decal sheet from the Hungarian manufacturer HAD models in 1:48 scale for a model of the Antonov An-2 biplane in civil guise. According to the name it covers a Lufthansa airline scheme and the machine with the registration HA-MHL. The sheet is applied to a finished, sprayed model and replaces or supplements the decals supplied with a kit.
Civil schemes are rewarding on the An-2, as the color lines on the fuselage and the carrier's lettering give the big biplane an entirely different character from military camouflage. It is exactly with such schemes that the quality of the printing and the register of the colors matter, because long lines have to join up along the whole fuselage. A thin film also follows the ribbed covering better.
The Antonov An-2 is a single-engine biplane with a radial engine which came about as a general purpose utility and transport aircraft. It manages takeoff and landing on a short, unprepared strip, carries a bulky load and asks little in maintenance. In civil service it carried passengers and freight, worked in agriculture, served for parachute training and did a great many other jobs.
Varnish the base with gloss clear coat. Cut the decals out, soak them briefly in lukewarm water and slide them into place once they release. Carry the long lines on the fuselage in sections and always with plenty of water under the film, so that they can still be moved. Soak the surplus water up, and where there are ribs and engraving use a softener. Once dry, spray a gloss or satin varnish according to the surface a civil machine should have.
