A decal set from the Czech manufacturer AML aimed at Messerschmitt Bf 109 F-4 fighters deployed over North Africa, in 1:48 scale. Desert aircraft with sand camouflage and the white bands of the Mediterranean theater are among the most striking faces of the Bf 109, and this set makes them available for ordinary kits of the type.
The Bf 109 F version is regarded by many pilots as the finest flying form of the whole line. The F-4 subversion received the DB 601E engine and the MG 151/20 cannon firing through the hollow propeller shaft. Aircraft intended for Africa carried tropical dust filters and desert finishes; over Libya and Egypt they were flown by units that made their name in combats with the RAF over El Alamein and Tobruk.
Desert camouflage is usually finished flat, so apply the decals over gloss intermediate varnish and spray the flat varnish only over the finished whole. If you weather the aircraft with dust pigments, lay them on only after the decals have been coated over, so that the markings sit naturally into the dusty surface.
